Though these financial products are not widely understood, we suggest that RMs have the potential to significantly ease the fiscal bur den which demographic transition is placing upon traditional state-funded retirement provision, both in Japan and elsewhere. Nevertheless, these products will be appealing only when the regulatory infrastructure within which they operate is appropriately developed. |
